You are not Behind

A few years ago I was working 60+ hours a week in a job that did not honor boundaries. I felt drained, like a robot that had no personal identity. I was always standing just outside the room, not feeling like I truly belonged. I realized that however much I wanted to be a part of the conversation, it was never the right time or place to join in.
It took a few months of soul searching to realize I was missing my creativity. I was just going through company procedures and had no space for my inner voice, my creative child, or my passion for art to be explored. That season felt a lot like creative burnout, and it started me on the path of finding creativity again.
Once I realized what was wrong it made the decision to change easier. Granted leaving a great paying job to follow my creativity was not an easy decision and has consequences all its own. But I felt if I did not allow myself to change my direction I would be lost to the world.
Taking on this new perspective has shown me that I did not have to make a huge life altering change, I just needed to start with one small personal moment. A Quiet Creative Reset became my slow art practice, a gentle way of remembering how creativity supports mental wellness.
Often when we start something new, like a new art medium we think we are no good unless we sell like the masters of the renaissance, **news flash when they were creating their art they were not considered masters!**
Why then would I assume I am not creative? This goes into my deep rooted belief that Creativity is from God and he wants us to explore our interests and passions no matter what the outcome. Simply TRY.
Knowing this has changed my perspective on what should happen when I sit down to create. It’s not about having mastered the techniques, or expecting it to look like the photo on the kit. It’s not about purchasing all the supplies before even starting, whether that means paint, yarn, or needle felting for beginners kits. It’s about allowing room for process-based art and giving yourself permission to begin.
It’s about being in the moment where your hands create something without judgment or critique and it turns into whatever it wants to be. That is the beauty of a quiet creative practice.
If you can relate to this feeling of loss and want someone to give you permission to take time to reset, send me a quick email! I’ll send you my Quiet Creative Reset PDF that you can use whenever you are feeling lost.
Creativity is not something you are born with- its something practiced, learned, and exercised frequently. Remember: You’re not behind on anything. You are just lost and need to find yourself again
